Competition Design for KöGärten in Düsseldorf
Green, sustainable, and invigorating urban architecture for the future

After the completion of our directly adjacent KÖ-Quartier, caspar. was invited by Hines to participate in a selection process for the redevelopment of the former Commerzbank complex, along with eight other participants. Characteristic of the KöGärten concept is its flexibility of use. This does not only mean the possibility to use individual areas in an extremely flexible way, but also the consistent mixed use itself: The KöGärten combine retail, office, gastronomy, mobility and culture in terms of both design and function. The building envelope consists of prefabricated large-format elements in light-colored natural stone and copper. The design pursues the clear goal of not only preserving as much existing building as possible – but also integrating it aesthetically and functionally through synergistic building on.

Congratulations to RKW Architektur+ and Pickard Chilton on their winning design!
