For the corner building at Hohe Straße 134-136 in Cologne’s city centre, we developed a new concept for a mixed use of gastro, office and commercial together with ehret+klein: A high-quality new building that meets modern and sustainable demands will be built here. This will be evident in the timber hybrid construction with recycled concrete, a green facade and roof, and the use of low-tech. Social aspects will be strengthened by the surrounding external staircase, which will open up the roof terrace to the public.
For our publication “Retail in Transition”, we investigated what the future of city centres might look like with a changing retail landscape. Our findings are incorporated into the development of the office and retail building. Thus, different concepts are integrated: So-called flex-spaces can even be used by different tenants at different times of the day.
