Kaiserteich living: 11 exclusive condominiums on Wasserstrasse in Düsseldorf’s Unterbilk district offer stunning panoramic lake views. In 2013, we filled a gap in the block with a new building that harmonizes with the historic character of the partially listed street through a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional stylistic elements. We aligned the building’s height with neighboring structures, creating a four-story building with a setback/rooftop level. To maintain a coherent scale in the building width as well, we used two different types of natural stone for the facade. Sand-colored Trosselfels limestone on the left and light gray shell limestone on the right give the impression of two distinct buildings, similar in style yet each with its own identity.
Both halves of the building feature a pronounced central axis; on the right, a bay window reflects a design element typical of the street. For the ground floor, we diverged from this symmetry to create balance at the base: the entrance to the underground parking is on the left, while the main entrance is on the right. All apartments are accessed through a double-height foyer leading to the staircase and elevator. The spacious apartments range from 160 to 360 square meters, with some designed as maisonettes. A smaller guest apartment is included on the 4th floor. High-quality, durable materials such as natural stone and wood are used throughout, ensuring urban living with maximum comfort. Large windows penetrate deep into the apartments, each featuring one or more balconies or terraces overlooking the serene garden.
