The 18th International Architecture Biennale in Venice, curated by ARCH+/SUMMACUMFEMMER/BÜRO JULIANE GREB and under the title “Open for Maintenance – Wegen Umbau geöffnet,” will open on May 20, 2023. caspar. will be there as the official backer of the German Pavilion. This year’s contribution from Germany addresses the topics of maintenance and repair. The focus is on the maintenance (and “maintenance squatting”) of the German Pavilion in the Giardini, with the goal of visualizing the processes of spatial and social care work that are normally hidden from public view.

About the German Pavilion

Das Konzept beleuchtet die aktuelle Debatte um den Bestand im Kontext von Nachhaltigkeit und Ressourcenschonung aus einer historischen und sozialen Perspektive. Die Instand(be)setzung beginnt mit der Übernahme des vorgefundenen Zustands und Maria Eichhorns Projekt wird aktiv in die Gesamtgestaltung einbezogen. Der Ausstellungsbeitrag wird mit gebrauchtem Material der Biennale Arte 2022 realisiert und von zahlreichen Länderpavillons unterstützt. Open for Maintenance setzt auf einen kreativen Umgang mit dem Ressourcenproblem der Biennalen und zeigt alternative Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten für die Architektur auf. Der Deutsche Pavillon verwandelt sich in eine produktive Infrastruktur, die auf lokalen Bedürfnissen ausgerichtet ist.
