The maxfrei / Ulmer Höh’ project in Düsseldorf has won second prize at the polis Awards 2021!
The “Urban Space Recycling” category has to do with the reactivation of urban spaces. maxfrei proved to be persuasive: The area of the former prison is being transformed into a “colorfully mixed urban district in the middle of Düsseldorf.” A total of 170 publicly subsidized apartments and the same number of student apartments are to be built at the once isolated site by 2023. As part of the large-scale project that includes INTERBODEN Innovative Lebenswelten GmbH & Co. KG, HAMBURG TEAM, Gesellschaft für Projektentwicklung mbH, HPP Architekten, GOETZEN Architekten, and studio grüngrau, we are planning two buildings for offices and retail, a daycare center, a service point, and restaurants, plus a residential building with 27 apartments and 2 guest apartments.
“The project will benefit the entire Derendorf district and the city of Düsseldorf. The publicly accessible park, playground, water feature, and daycare center as well as the retail and restaurant offerings will provide added value for inhabitants, tradespeople, employees, and the entire neighborhood.” Thanks to the district app, “an active neighborhood and a cross-pollenating and communicative district is created that is also car-free and exceptionally green.” First prize in the “Urban Space Recycling” category went to the Werksviertel, Munich project. Congratulations to the Department for Urban Planning and Building, who collaborated with OTEC GmbH & Co. KG and R&S Immobilienmanagement and many others. We’d also like to congratulate the third-prize winners for the Mühlen Viertel, Ravensburg project, as well as Reisch Projektentwicklung GmbH & Co. KG, Bächlemeid Architekten Stadtplaner BDA, Joachim Sassenscheidt from RSP Architekten Partnergesellschaft and many others, and all the other fortunate winners!
The coveted polis AWARDs, initiated by polis Magazine for Urban Development, were presented at the polis Convention. Our thanks to the first-rate jury headed by Prof. Dr. Johannes Busmann (publisher of polis magazine and organizer of the polis Convention) for this fantastic award!
