The Amprion Projekthaus 2.0 is being built in the Phoenix-West technology district in Dortmund-Hörde – an area shaped by its industrial heritage while continuously reinventing and evolving itself. The new building expands the campus of the European transmission system operator Amprion with a four-story office and administrative building offering approximately 21,000 m² of gross floor area. Together with general contractor GOLDBECK, caspar. is creating workspaces for around 550 employees here, with the option to expand. The concept is complemented by a green spine connecting the new building to the existing Amprion campus, as well as a parking structure that adopts the design language of the new structure and feeds energy directly into the office building via its rooftop photovoltaics.
In its full development stage, the building takes on the figure of a horizontal figure-eight: two interior courtyards emerge naturally from the floor plan logic, connecting indoor and outdoor space in a seamless way. Even the first construction phase articulates an independent, sculptural stance while making precise reference to the existing campus buildings. Rounded corners and white horizontal facade bands give the building a wave-like dynamic; they echo the design language of the neighboring buildings without repeating it. The glazed entrance area opens the building toward Carlo-Schmid-Allee, and a stepped-back forecourt establishes its address.
The building is developed consistently within the GOLDBECK Office Architecture System, which combines a high degree of flexibility with economic efficiency. It is based on a 2.70 m grid, supplemented by a 1.35 m half-grid: walls, doors, and spatial layouts can be adjusted with minimal effort. Each 1.35 m axis includes an operable window sash, enabling natural ventilation in all rooms. The corridors open to the outdoors, some featuring seating niches and natural daylight. In this way, the building responds to the demands of modern work environments – from private offices to open-plan spaces – and remains adaptable over the long term thanks to its modular grid.
