According to the Journal of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Sumayah Al-Solaiman is “the most influential figure in architecture in Saudi Arabia.” As head of the kingdom’s Architectural Design Commission (ADC), she’s responsible for defining regulations, standards, and principles – and her role carries serious cultural and educational weight. Sumayah and I spoke about the big picture, but also zoomed in on specifics – like the curious case of the traditional Saudi house.
