Hello. We’ve written before about our revitalization project at Georg-Glock-Straße 14 – perhaps you saw it here or here. Now, construction at LYGHT is complete. To us, it’s a strong example of how preserving a building can mean far more than “preservation” – and how revitalizing a structure can simultaneously re-energize an entire neighborhood. The existing ensemble consisted of a 12-story highrise slab with a technical floor, directly connected to a two-story low-rise volume organized around a courtyard. The complex once housed the regional branch of Nordstern Insurance and was well planned and executed to a high standard by Philipp Holzmann AG in 1973. Still, time had left its mark in more ways than one.
Commissioned by the MOMENI Group and aligned with Green Building principles, we rethought and reprogrammed the entire ensemble: more openness, more green, and roughly 1,500 m² of added space. We added one floor atop the low-rise to accommodate two new office units. Cantilevered extensions on the 1st and 2nd floors create a column-free projection that both defines and protects the new main entrance. The lobby was relocated between the two stair cores to link the highrise and the low-rise, with direct access to the courtyard. And a new highlight: the rooftop terrace on the newly added 3rd floor of the low-rise.
