Lately I’ve been thinking about the story of Lazarus, who dies and is brought back to life by Jesus four days later. As architects, we really shouldn’t take ourselves too seriously. Yes, we carry significant social, aesthetic, and ecological responsibility. But miracles on the Jesus scale? Sadly not in our skill set.
Still, Lazarus keeps coming up for me, because the past months (and the ones ahead) have been full of news about revitalization projects by caspar.: LYGHT and the Twins in the Park in Düsseldorf, SACHS in Cologne, and the Park Tower and Börse 14 in Frankfurt. Strictly speaking, Börse 14 is am new build – but together with the newly dedicated Nini-and-Carry-Hess Square in front (itself a vital act of reviving memory), it’s a wonderful example of how architecture can enliven an urban quarter … perhaps we should try the same in our private lives: enliven others wherever we can. Give strength. Inspire (literally: breathe into). Lift people up.
caspar. wishes you an inspiring, revitalizing holiday season – and an en-livening New Year!
