Breakthrough and renewal for a more vibrant Seestern Quarter in Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf’s Seestern Quarter was a district of functionalist office architecture from the 1960s and ’70s, defined by the car. A stand-in for many monofunctional, monostructured, monolithic urban areas: functional, yes—but hardly colorful; efficient, but impermeable to almost anything else—and certainly not relaxed. Hello. Local development plan, City of Düsseldorf, dated 8 January 1975. With the “Twins in the Park” project, we want to help transform that—from a rather sterile office location into a mixed, urban neighborhood. We were fortunate to win a competition that officially only called for a concept sketch. For our client, Epicore Investment Management GmbH, we delivered more.
