Caspar Schmitz-Morkramer presents our design for ‘Twins in the Park’ in Düsseldorf in the current issue of “nbau” magazine, starting on page 42. The design won first place in the ideas competition. In a detailed article, he explains the specifics of this ‘spectacular conversion of existing buildings’.
In Düsseldorf’s Seestern district, a monofunctional office city, Caspar’s ‘Twins in the Park’ project involves splitting a massive office block in two. This spectacular conversion of existing buildings is intended not only to enable new living and neighbourhood life, but also to become part of, and a driving force for, a paradigm shift. “Twins in the Park” is not yet a fully developed project, but rather an expanded sketch of ideas that offers as many figures and calculations as possible. The amount of grey energy that can be saved by preserving the existing structure (including the underground car park) compared to a new building of similar dimensions is considerable.
