1st Prize in the Competition for “Twins in the Park”
“I want to break free” – Breakthrough and renewal for a more vibrant city quarter

We are delighted that our latest project, “Twins in the Park”, was presented for the first time today at EXPO REAL! This project was developed in collaboration with QiDUS S.a.r.l., represented by Epicore Investment Management GmbH, and was created as part of an ideas competition that we won.

The Seestern district of Düsseldorf is characterised by functionalist office architecture from the 1960s and 1970s, and is entirely devoted to the car. It is functional and efficient, but hardly lively. With ‘Twins in the Park’, however, we aim to change that. We are converting a monolithic office block into two distinct residential buildings, Twin I and Twin II, and transforming a sterile office location into an urban, mixed-use neighbourhood.

Our idea is based on a conversion that, in the best sense of the word, involves dismantling: we are removing the diagonally inserted central structure to free the ensemble from its rigidity and open up new spaces – physically, symbolically, and emotionally. The supporting structure, ceilings and core structures will remain largely intact. Instead of a closed block, we are creating an open structure that provides transparency, permeability, and new visual connections. We are realising the potential within the existing building by removing elements to create new spaces for living.
